Carl and Lori Churchill co-founded Alpha Coffee on September 11, 2010. Carl is a combat veteran with 21 years of enlisted and officer service. Lori is a military spouse. The company is veteran and woman co-owned.

They started as Lock-N-Load Java, packing coffee in their basement, and rebranded to Alpha Coffee in 2016. The first shop opened in 2017 at the mouth of Big Cottonwood Canyon in Cottonwood Heights. They have two locations in the Salt Lake City area.
